Buccellati (Sicily)
A flavourful filling of figs, raisins, pistachios, walnuts, pine nuts, honey and apricot jam, wrapped in delightful pastry. Traditionally, this cookie is baked as one big log. Since I wanted to put them in small jars, I stick to the "X" and crescent shapes, in much smaller size.
My older brother lives in Western Australia, loves classic cars and foods. Two interests he shares with his many Sicilian friends. Weekends are often spent racing Fiats (or Mini) and fixing Alfa Romeo, with coffee breaks in between. I chose to bake Buccellati, mostly for my brother, as I know he admires their culture. I'm glad I did, it's my new favourite cookie!
